Ways of connecting to Hospital System for patient info sm

I have received a call from a potential client, but she was asking me if I am able to connect to the hospital system to look up patient information. I said I would have to know the specifics of the system (which of course she did not know), and then I would need to research on how to do this. Just wondering if anyone out there is able to do this, and what kind of software does it take. I am assuming it would have to be whatever software this particular hospital has, but am not sure at this point what that would be. Anyone care to share good/bad experiences with systems such as this? Thanks in advance!
