a problem with the Autosave feature. Normally, that feature is set to autosave the document every 10-15 minutes or so. You can turn that feature off and see if that fixes it.

There really isn't a good reason that autosave would cause it to crash. That would point toward another (deeper) problem with your system. However, this might be a quick workaround if autosave isn't important for you.

Not sure which operating system you have, but you may want to try running scandisk (or in WinXP you would run Diskcleanup.) which would be located under Accessories / System Tools.

Not sure off the top of my head where the autosave feature is located in Word. Try a search in the Help file (F1)
