Replacing a hard drive in Compaq presario

I have a Compaq presario 5280 and am trying to replace the hard drive with the already formatted hard drive from another computer. The original hard drive had Windows 98 and the "new" drive has Windows 2000. When it starts to load, a message comes up saying error loading OS. any clues on what to do? Thanks
