Wav Pedal

Okay I can transcribe but I am pretty ignorant about wav files and wav pedals, etc. One doc I work for has signed on with OmniMD for electronic records, etc. He will be dictating on OmniMD, I am supposed to access the dictation and download it to my computer as a wav file and transcribe it. I have a wav pedal. What I don't understand is will my computer automatically recognize the foot pedal and what software do I use to play the files? Somebody told me I could not use a foot pedal with Windows Media Player but the tech at OmniMD says it will work. I have no way to check this out before the doc actually starts dictating because without a dictation I have nothing to download.

Can someone with some experience using wav files explain this to me please?
