No desktop Icons? It's absolutely normal.

It happened many times to me, nothing wrong with your Laptop or XP pack. All you need is a right mouse click on your blank desktop > Properties > Desktop > See the button "Customize Desktop" and here you can activate the slective Desktop Icons. Thanks,
