Responsible for the thorough and accurate coding and correct sequencing of codes for disease and procedures for IP, OP, and ECC medical records. Reviews patient records and assigns accurate codes following guidelines of appropriate documentation guidelines. Applies knowledge of medical terminology, disease processes, and pharmacology. Keeps department leadership informed of problems and issues related to coding or I/T 3M end-coder, Medipac medical record abstract. Demonstrates tested data quality and integrity skills.
Requires a high school diploma and successful obtainment and maintenance of the AHIMA credential – Certified Coding Associate or Specialist (CCA or CCS) Official Coding Education Program through AHIMA, TJC or other recognized coding education. A&P I or II Medical Terminology I or II 6-12 months coding and abstracting experience in ICD-9, CM, DRG’s and CPT. If graduate of HIT AA Program, education may substitute for hospital experience. Must be able to proficiently utilize Hospital mainframe (HBOC Medipac) A/D/T, 3M Encoder and other PC functions
