PRIMARY JOB DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

1. Processes information for new admissions and transfers, including chart assembly, physician orders, coordinating/scheduling procedures, etc.; processes information for discharges/deaths and transfers out.

2. Processes physician orders for diet, radiology, lab, consults, etc.; transcribes medication orders; coordinates work within the department and with other departments (engineering, environmental services, patient transport, etc.) as needed.

3. Proactively obtains and organizes patient information and materials and places on patient record in a timely manner.

4. Performs various clerical duties, including maintenance of patient records in appropriate order, faxing, photocopying, maintenance of department lists/reports/schedules, etc., utilizing established standards/competencies, policies and procedures.

5. Answers telephone and directs calls to appropriate staff and/or takes messages; performs general receptionist duties to assist visitors, patients, families, employees.
6. Maintains department supplies; orders as needed to maintain inventory levels or as directed by department manager.

7. Communicates effectively with team members, patient and family members using appropriate verbal and written communication skills.

8. Maintains patient safety, comfort, confidentiality and privacy; adheres to HIPAA standards.

9. Organizes job functions and work assignments to be able to effectively complete assignments within established time frames.

10. Demonstrates knowledge of all equipment and systems/technology necessary to complete duties and responsibilities.

11. Functions as part of an interdisciplinary team. Collaborates with team members to ensure patient’s well being and promote optimum patient outcomes.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

1. Education: High school diploma or equivalent; completion of Health Unit Coordinator curriculum preferred.
2. Licensure: None
3. Experience: Minimum of 6-9 months as Health Unit Coordinator or completion of an approved course. (If STEP or PTD and normally scheduled to work less than 40 hours per pay period, must have minimum of one year full time experience in acute care hospital.).
4. Skills: Must be able to satisfactorily perform each essential function; satisfactorily demonstrate required competencies including medical terminology, basic computer skills, order entry/transcription; use effective reading, verbal and written communication skills; type 30-35 wpm with 90% accuracy; good organization skills

6. Hours of Work: Any hours as required by the hospital
7. Other: Attend in-services; demonstrate knowledge of hospital polices and procedures

Qualifications/Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent is required
1-2 years experience is required

Department: ASCC 6E/W ACUTE CARE/NEPHROLOG
Hours: 7:00pm-7:30am
Schedule: Part Time
Shift: 12 Hour Nights
