Meets with Director of Medical Records and or Medical Record Supervisor to inform and to receive input, address issues and insure good communication. Transcribes technical medical information from recorded dictation including history and physical reports, operative reports, discharge summaries, progress notes, radiology interpretations, consultations, electroencephalogram reports, emergency room reports and similar medical reports. Logs transcribed reports when completed. Responds to questions concerning dictated or transcribed reports. Transcribes dictated reports for Southern Coos General Hospital and radiology reports for North Bend Medical Center. Performs backup on a daily basis according to existing policies and procedures. Participates in department meetings and special assignments. Work area, equipment and reference material is kept clean, orderly and safe respecting safety and comfort to others. Meets productivity standard of 85 minutes of dictated material transcribed in an eight hour shift and 106 minutes of dictation in a ten hour shift. Observes confidentiality and safeguards all patient-related information. Supports and complies with the hospital?s mission, vision and values. Demonstrates knowledge and skills needed to provide appropriate levels of service to patients in specific age groups as outlined in the Bay Area Hospital employee performance appraisal form. One year college course or equivalent training in medical terminology. Certified Medical Transcriptionist or equivalent desirable. High school diploma or equivalent required. One year or more of experience in a hospital based transcription position required. Has experience demonstrated in the following; knowledge of medical terminology, knowledge of basic anatomy, ability to use personal computer and Word Perfect, basic secretarial skills, ability to deal tactfully with physicians, self disciplined and organized, ability to communicate effectively with other department employees and hospital staff, flexibility and positive attitude toward change.
