I have learned that the company I used to work for manipulated the word count software to the extent that they were actually double billing the client. I also know for a fact that some employees had a different way of counting lines from other employees. I copied a file from one computer to another when I was inhouse (for legitimate reasons), and there was a difference in the number of lines counted. The explanation I got for this was totally off the wall. The company has since closed its doors. Now there are numerous suits against the company. Apparently this is common practice, but crooks usually get caught up with.
