It is actually the software, not the foot pedal, that determines what kind of sound files (.dss, .wav) can be played. By universal foot pedal, though, I assume they are referring the the Infinity foot pedal, which costs about $69 and plugs into a USB port. You can buy it, though, with software, which adds to the price, and the company may be expecting you to provide your software as well if all they are sending you are the raw sound files. You should check with them to see if you just need the pedal or software too. There is also a freeware software program, I believe called ExpressScribe or something like that, that is compatible with the Infinity pedal.
