another with a different illness. Neither could get anything from SS or anyone partly because of age and partly because one was living with her mother and she was middle-aged. Imagine not getting anything and the poor mother on SS herself and a fixed income. Only thing she could provide was a place for her daughter to die.

I'd check before I made bold statements like this. They are not always the way they seem.
