Many years ago I knew a middle-aged lady (in her late fifties) who for many years told everybody that she had graduated from UT-Austin with a degree in math and art and had taught in the public schools. For a time, she even had an orange car and decorated her home in orange and white (the UT colors). No one questioned her, and her siblings kept silent. I found out later that she married right out of high school and never spent one day in any classroom after that. I couldn't understand it. Of course, she was a chronic alcoholic, but still.....why make up such a story when who gives a rat's tail whether she had a degree or not???? Like anyone cared!!!
