According to the information on your website you are wanting to basically mandate that everyone have some sort of medical transcription certification in order to access medical records. If you were to theoretically get this mandated (and I can't see how you can) I presume that certification would be made available by parties that are not associated with your self-serving organization, correct? Otherwise it would be improper to request the government basically endorse only one certification program. Secondly since you apparently think it's appropriate to mandate that anyone touching medical records have some certification, I presume that you're going to mandate that everyone who works in a hospital or doctors office have some sort of certification, correct? Otherwise to require one group to have certification and not another which would basically be discrimination, which is not allowed in the US. Lastly instead of promoting some self-serving certification why not get back to what the 1st word of your organization name is... AMERICAN, and immediately revoke the membership of anyone not living within the US and refuse to allow offshore MTs and entities to join? Until you start backing the AMERICAN workers and stop trying to continue to self-serve yourself I envision your membership will continue to decrease. No one wants to join/rejoin an organization that fights against us by mandating costly tests, costly recertification/CME meetings, etc.
