CMT - Why bother?

I made the same offer to my MTs at the time I was getting certified, and offered to pay half, but nobody took me up on it. Why should they? I really couldn't afford to pay them any more than I already did, and that just got worse as time went on, since our line rates have been basically stagnant for the last 10-15 years. I've been doing this for 17 years now. Just crazy that this profession requires so much expertise and is compensated so little. I did get my CMT but never re-upped - and now I'm glad I didn't donate any more of my hard-earned low pay to that organization, whoever they represent, cause it sure ain't us.
