Meg, in 1992 I was working for a service in which the owner decided they'd have more selling power if we were all certified. He even fronted half the fee for the test, and many of us MTs took it. Some refused. Well, out of about 25 people who took the test, 7 of us passed. Several MTs who were, and still are, far better transcriptionists than I am flunked the nit-picky fool thing. Back then, it was only the transcription test, period. The owner was really PO'ed and felt he'd wasted his $. :P .....Back then, being a CMT used to mean something. At this point, I hardly believe it does any more. My current employer of 8 years does not pay any more to CMTs than to other MTs, and I respect that with all my heart. You're good or you're not.
