One space after period

Since justification first came out (with my Olivetti typewriter) I was told by powers that be that the new ruling would be one space after the period because when justification is used, using two spaces after the period would create too much space on the line. It took me forever to get used to this because I was taught in business school, always 2 spaces after a period. When I finally did get it, once I "slipped" using 2 spaces, I saw the awkward difference in how the line looked and that there was too much white space with the 2 spaces left instead of the one. I hope this makes some sense. Been one-spacing for a long time now, please don't make me go back to my old 2 spaces again, it took forever to change this habit! Hope you understand what I mean about the justification set-up.
