Hi:
This is not very encouraging, but I just got health insurance for my husband and myself a year ago after doing without any for five years. We went with Mega Health & Life, offered through the National Association of Self-Employed (NASE). It costs me $584 a month because my husband has a heart problem. I had to join NASE to get it. That added $142 to the first premium payment, but it pays hospital, vision, prescription, ER, some tests, ambulance transfer services if necessary, etc. It's a good plan but I have a deductible of $1,000. The plans vary according to what you want. You pick and choose your deductible and the items you want included. You can include doctor visits and dental, but since we don't have a doctor, and we don't need the dental, I left that out.

They were the ONLY ones who would take us because of his problem. I even called the state insurance guy and he said "good luck" when I asked him who would cover us. Great! We pay, through our taxes, a guy to tell me that? He was supposed to help us.

It took me four months to find a company. BC/BS wouldn't take us either..Oh sure, they'd take me, but not him, and he's the one that needs it the most. I wish you luck and will keep my fingers crossed for you. Sharon
