I had individual private policies through Blue Cross for each of my 2 boys and myself.

They each had 2 preexisting conditions -- I opted to purchase the plan anyway with a 1-year exclusion of those conditions.

I took a high deductible that was for major medical only (all office visits were a $20 copay at that time) to save money on premiums. I think it was a $2500 deductible but only applied to major medical expenses (hospitalization).

I paid just over $90 a month for each of the boys' policies; mine was the same policy without preexisting conditions and it was $79 a month. Had drug benefits on all and dental coverage as well. This was about 3 years ago.

Go to their website and read about their private purchase products. Fill out their paperwork/application...you never know what they might offer you.
