sometimes the unions outprice themselves on wages and work ends up either going to employees who hire on with a company as non-union status, is subcontracted to nonunion labor or goes overseas. There's a division of Lockheed union that's threatening to strike starting tomorrow because they believe that a guaranteed 10% raise over 3 years and $1500 signing bonus isn't good enough. This very division has been struggling to keep their employees in jobs as the government is cutting back on how many military planes they make. Frankly I think all of us would love to get the terms they've been offered - especially in return they get more job security!
