My mother passed away this last year and my uncle just passed away last week and in both cases I think they both knew something was wrong with their bodies and they were not going to live much longer. In my mom's case she was sick but we were not expecting her to die but she told us there was just something not right. She couldn't describe it but it was about a week later and she was gone. My uncle also was ill with prostate cancer but there was a time where he knew he was not going to live but a few more days. I just wonder what it is that people feel or sense that makes them know death is near. Anyway, just thought it was an interesting field to get into! Good luck with that.
