This zoo leaves a lot to be desired. I took my kids once and felt VERY UNSAFE. The landscaping, care for the animals, etc. was just AWFUL. Then I read this article this morning. It is sad, but having a psychotic zebra is just hilarious.

USA - The Norfolk Zoo is making changes after a zebra somehow made its way into the African lion exhibit and survived a fight with a lioness.Just before closing Monday, a zoo visitor noticed the zebra in the lion's area and alerted staff. The zebra somehow escaped his exhibit and ended up in the lion's area.

No one witnessed the incident, but apparently the zebra fought off an attack from a 6-year-old African lioness. Neither animal was severely injured. The lioness was wet and muddy. The zebra had several claw marks.

Both animals have a history of violence. Last October, the zebra chased a rhino into a canal. That rhino later drowned. In July 2002, the lioness killed another female lion in a fight over a wild duck.

Hoping to prevent another incident, zoo officials plan on adding large rocks to the ravine that separates the lion and zebra areas.

The zebra will not be allowed in the outdoor exhibit for fear he'll escape again. Eventually, he will be shipped to another zoo when the right match comes forward. The lioness will be back in the outdoor exhibit soon.
