Doubt I would take the preparer's word for it

Unless you hear it from the IRS that downloaded W2s are not acceptable, then there is no reason that a downloaded form is not fine.

Besides, when filing electronically, you don't have to send the form in, so how will anyone know if the info was off your W2, or your last paystub, as long as the information is correct?
