You can spot patch the carpet if you have any old remnants of the carpet around. If the nail polish is just on the surface of the carpet, use a pair of scissors to cut the hardened polish off. Just don' t go too deep or it'll make a bald spot. I would not recommend nail polish remover or paint thinner as it's flammable and will probably ruin the carpet. The nail polish would just smear all over and the carpet would probably either lose color or shirvel up depending on what textile was used to manufacture it.
