Absolutely get a copy of your credit report. I have a friend who is a real estate broker and pull a tri-merged copy of mine. YIKES what a mess! Under the new FACTA which is now part of the credit report act you're entitled to 1 free report per year. " As of December 1, 2004 consumers in the Western United States (Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah, Washington, and Wyoming) are eligible to received one free credit report per year. As of March 1, 2005 consumers in the Midwestern states (Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota, and Wisconsin) will be eligible to receive their one free report annually. As of June 1, 2005 consumers in the Southern states (Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Texas) will be eligible to receive their free annual credit report. Lastly as of September 1, 2005 those in the Eastern states (Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia, and West Virginia), Puerto Rico, and all U.S. territories will become eligible." After you get your report, go over it with a fine tooth comb. The collectors use all kinds of tricks to keep their debt on your report. Personally, I would not recommend purchasing an e-book. There are too many sites like http://www.credit-repair.com that will tell you how to do it for free. They also have a really good e-group, very friendly and helpful. Good luck!
