Hypnosis - Does it work?

Does anyone have any personal experience with hypnosis? I have a totally irrational fear of driving over hills. I have a 5-year-old daughter and would love to take her all over the country on vacations to places like our wonderful national parks, but driving in hills (heaven forbid actual mountains) makes me panicky to the point that I just can't do it. I will fly all day long and drive in south Florida traffic without batting an eyelash, but rolling hills like those here in western New York set my heart racing and palms sweating. I'd love to hear stories from someone with any experience with having anything cured/fixed through hypnosis.
