I agree that I think they just want an idea of when people will be working to make sure the accounts are adequately covered. I tell then 9-5, but if I get a late start, take an hour off in the middle, or don't finish by 5 and do another hour or two later in the evening it's not a big deal and isn't questioned. I have heard that some MQ offices make their employees hold to a strict schedule and don't allow them to work outside their set hours usually, and punch in and out, but I don't think this is the case for SE, even when they are asking you to tell them when you will be working. A lot of companies even ask ICs for hours so they can manage their work flow. It isn't ideal, but I don't *think* it's illegal.
