We work primarily with ICs on all of our accounts. This does work extremely well in most cases. However, every new IC we add requires a substantial amount time to get up and running as well as an additional burden on our editors as we guarantee the quality of our work that goes back to our clients. As we bring on new accounts, we need to be up and running within a very short period of time in most cases. We can either add editing staff and pay the ICs a rate low enough to accomodate the price of an editor, or we can team up with a small service or group of ICs who want to work together who will guarantee my service, their "client", the same quality of work we guarantee to our client - the hospital or clinic. There is a gross misperception on the part of many ICs, from reading the boards, the MTSOs are making huge amounts of profit on accounts. Because the rates have been driven so low in many areas trying to compete with offshore services, or with services who send work offshore without disclosing that fact, we have to keep our transcription production cost at roughly 0.10 per 65 character line. This, on an account that may pay on 0.12 per line, is often quite a balancing act with overhead of equipment, telephone and support services running between 0.015 to 0.02 per line. So, no, I am not discounting working with ICs who can produce top quality work, actually care about turnaround and are comitted to transcription as a career and not just a job to get through as many lines in a day as possible.
