Have you checked into purchasing a used computer? I picked mine up for $300 and the guy took six $50 postdated checks from me for it. The computer's only 2-3 years old and has been gone through completely to be sure there's nothing wrong with it. Ask around, too. Sometimes people just give away their old computers because it's not worth the hassle to try to sell them. I gave away two of mine to families who didn't have a computer. Maybe a rent to own center? With five kids, won't you be getting a nice earned income credit refund on your taxes? Most of the rent a center places don't charge you the interest if you pay them off after 12 weeks but before 16 weeks or something like that. You might also call some of the local assistance programs in your area to see if anybody has any donated computers or grant programs. Sometimes businesses will donate used computers to people who show a genuine need for one. There are local government auctions here for loads of computers. There are programs out there to help people in certain situations. You just have to look for them. My old neighbor got a donated computer because she was going to college and people donated used computers for student parents to keep. Just stay away from those stupid "buy a computer, no credit check, only $50 a week!" because the computer is never worth what you pay for it. As for using other software on the MQ computer, well, that's up to you. Some people do so because MQ charges them rent. However, some MT companies don't allow any other software installed on their computers.
