I was self-employed for 13 years all together (not all MT). Government/Corporate jobs really like you to have a supervisor/manager on your resume. I just found most people knew nothing about MT or how it all worked. I also had an issue with the civil service where my postal address was in one county but I physically lived in another, which impacted where I was on the lists (apparently they like to hire from within their own counties when they can).

You have to work the system for those types of jobs, it takes time and effort to jump through all the hoops. You can't be lazy about your applications. If they say put your social security # on every page and you don't, they can simply toss your resume. I got a lot of call backs once I had already started my new job, so I can't say how many I actually would have gotten, but there were certainly opportunities available. Pick the type of of job you want, pick the pay and benefits you want, and only apply for those types of jobs. Do a lot of research to find those jobs and then do everything it takes to successfully complete the application process, which can be lengthy. That was the one greatest thing about MT near the end, it gave me the flexibility to complete my job search and the ability to hold off until something I really wanted came along. The whole thing took about 9 months. I'm hoping to maybe pickup MT a bit again next year for extra money for vacations, etc.
