what is going on with the industry. For right now I consider it a hiatus because, as I said, I would actually like to do MT again a few hours a week.

I'm not bashing MT. It was very useful when my kids were younger, and I loved it. The first two years I worked for next to nothing but considered it more or less part of my education. Once I had two years' experience, I was able to move to a different company and do fairly to pretty well financially. Besides all that, MT was the major stepping stone in getting the job I have now, which made it more than worth it.

As far as working at home being a privilege, I wouldn't necesarily say that. Like anything else, it had its up and down sides. My family is much happier with me working out of the house. I have a lot more time (nights and weekends) with undivided attention to devote to them, and we are have greater security financially and otherwise. DH puts the kids on the bus in the a.m. after I get them ready. After school a neighborhood teenager watches them for one hour until I get home from work. I have a lot of liberties when it comes to PTO, so I can take off when they are sick or whatever.

I just remember what it was like when I worked for peanuts, and there was now way I would have stayed as long as I did under those conditions. My first MT job was just like the ones so many complain about, but I always viewed it as a stepping stone anyway, which it worked out to be. First to a better MT job and then to my present job.
