...is with a digital handheld recorder. They range in price from a little over $100 to $300 or so, depending on the features. The client dictates into the recorder, then transfers the files from the recorder to his PC. He then uses one of several different types of file transfer programs to send the files to you over the Internet, you download the files and transcribe them on your PC with a "wave pedal" and "wave player", which is a foot pedal control and software that lets you play the dictation files just like a tape in a transcriber. You can then send the finished reports back to the client over the Internet just like he sent the voice files to you, only in reverse.
