A C-phone looks just like a telephone except is comes with headphones and a foot pedal. You can use it as a regular phone, but its primary use is as a means to dial into a system which holds dictation. With a C-phone you can type while you are dialed into the system. My one draw back about the C-phone is, if you need to get up then you lose your dictation, as it is working almost in real time. This is really upsetting if you are in a long report and have to get up for some reason and then come back and your phone has disconnected from the system and you now cannot get your report back because it went back into the pool and another transcriptionist now has it. Some companies assign you reports and then you can go back and retrieve but if you do pool work you cannot.
