Are you an IC or do you work for a company? I'm an IC that experienced trouble getting paid at one point. Some accounts were holding my bills 120+ days. I paid to join the local credit bureau so I could report payment records, which are then reported to the national credit bureaus. I sent out little cards the credit bureau provided me, stating effective a certain date, all accounts would be reported to the credit bureau on a monthly basis. Since that time, I have less than a 30-day average on accounts receivable. I lost no accounts from taking this step. This is probably one of the best decisions ever for me.
