I have no idea what "experience" you have with MQ. Do you just type summaries, or do you have extensive experience in all the major 4 reports, all specialties? Or do you just do clinic work? Can you do ESLs or are you limited to dictators who speak very clearly?

If you have a good background and experience with your present company, and a high QA rating, then why not ask them for a raise?

Those of us with companies who pay more have had a lot of experience and need very little help with reports and have very low QA errors. I would hardly qualify 3 years as enough experience to go to the top of the pay scale.

Another thing to consider in pay scales is what is the actual pay. Are you being paid for gross lines or counted character lines. Are you paid for all headers that you enter in a report, or just the body of the report. How much work do you do in entering demographics? How difficult is the work platform?

Companies that pay more can do so because they do not have to spend as much money for people in the QA department to hold inexperienced MTs hands to do the work required. Also, the MT is reliable and works when they say they will work, and do not offer 100 excuses as to why they only worked an hour today and 4 hours 3 days ago. I can't help if Aunt Tillie fell in a bucket and it took you 3 days to pull her out of it. The account you are assigned to does not understand nor accept those excuses, either.

Pay scales can go from 5 cpl to 15 cpl or more for independent contractors with their own clients. But there are drawbacks to being an independent contractoe, as well.

The average seems to be around 6.5 to 7.5 for inexperienced help, and 8 to 10.5 for experienced help. If the company offers benefits, you can expect a lower rate, at least to start. Those line lengths can be from 60 to 84 characters. There is no standard. Also, some of the higher paying companies do not pay for demographics nor for the subheaders, such as HISTORY OF PRESENT ILLNESS: etc.

You have to do some serious shopping before you find a company to fit your needs. You cannot just listen to what you hear on the boards about this company or that one being good (many times it is the management of the company doing the posting), or this or that company being bad, because it may just be a disgruntled employee who could not cut the mustard.

Those of us working for companies who pay very good rates are not going to post the names of those companies. It would create a flood of applications, and then you would be upset because they do not have a top heavy management staff, and do not have the time to answer each and every one of your applications.

Sit down and fill out an honest application with what you can and cannot do, then submit it to various companies and see what responses you get.
